Is clutter drowning the voice of your soul?

Clutter makes me tired. It takes away my good energy and makes me feel overwhelmed. Simple things which should take minutes, can take hours because the clutter clouds both my mind and my soul.  Yet, having a busy life and having young adults in a house is difficult to keep the place as clutter free as I would like. One of my strategies is to do a fifteen minute de-cluttering in the morning and in the evening when I get home.  Tackling small pieces at a time makes me feel in control – that I can start and complete it.

Flowers-on-Table-OpenTable[1]Here are a few things I did this week which has taken only 15 minutes and I feel that some new energy breathing into me.

I deleted FB contacts – groups or otherwise who post things that drain my energy.  Those include highly political groups, people who post obscenity, violence, pornography, abuse or always complain about something.  I have also deleted people from my timeline who have never liked, shared, commented or sent me a message.  It takes too much energy going through posts which prevents me from getting to the ones I really want to see.  I added new inspirational groups to my FB page.

I cleaned the kitchen bookshelf. I gave away some books which have not been used in the last five years.

I sorted out a stack of bills from last year and cleared the mail holder.  I filed all the ones for taxes in a beautiful box.

I cleared out one closet and gave away two bags of items to the donation bin. 

I cleaned the glass windows, doors and mirrors in the house.  What a difference clean, clear glass makes!

We made the bed before we left the house. It is so nice to come home to a bed all ready for me!

I delegated some of the tasks to other members of the family.  I used to do “express clean-ups” with my kids when they were younger.  We would time the clock for 15 minutes and tidy up as quickly as possible.

My goal is to have inspired spaces around me which are simple, beautiful, breathes life into me and inspires my soul to sing and do my life work. It is all possible with a bit of effort.

Do you feel that you have lost your spirt? How do you feed your spirt?

Feed your Spirt

It is not hard to lose the essence of who we are.  It is not hard to lose our souls.  Our lives sometimes feel so busy that we don’t have the time or energy to listen to our spirit, which is really longing for our attention to help us live our best lives.

We hear it in our voices when we say or think:

“I feel lost.”

“I feel tired.”

“I am not feeling fulfilled.”

“I need a challenge.”

“I feel bored.”

“I no longer know what I am doing with this job/partner/relationship.”

“I can’t stand my job any longer.”

When we disconnect from our spirit, everything else begins to crash around us.  When we tune in to those feelings – it is a signal for us to get back on track and honour that essence which sustains us.

For many years, I struggled trying to understand how to be quiet and meditate.   When I tried to sit quietly, my mind seemed to drift to my multitude of challenges. But I never gave up.  In my quest to quieten my mind, I have read lots of books on meditation.  One of them gave me an insight which changed everything completely.  It helped me to understand that my breath is the source of all life. It is the source which feeds my spirit.  As soon as this clicked in my mind, I found that I could lie down quietly and breathe deeply peacefully and let all other things float out of my mind.  I understand how important that my breath is – it is the breath of life.  As I lie down and just simply breathe in and out deeply for 15 minutes, I give my body and spirit, the gift of acknowledging the power of that breath and that life which I have been blessed with through grace. The  oxygen which feeds the cells of my body feel delighted that I take the time to do this.  In my moments of stress, my spirit reminds me to go back to my breath – and as I tune in to breathing and acknowledging that essence of who I am, all things become peaceful again.
