Believe In Your Capacity To Set And Achieve Your Goals

Each day I set small and big goals for myself. Sometimes, it is as simple as cleaning one closet or doing a facial or calling a friend. Sometimes it is as big as setting a goal to go back to school. Today, I start a new goal which was planted 15 years ago – to be back at university. I am starting my new MA program – Masters in Migration and Diaspora Studies.

Look out for my next post where I will talk more about my journey and how I eventually got to living this goal.

What I know for certain, is that we have the capacity to set and achieve our goals.

What are your small and big goals?

An Invitation For Newness And Rejuvenation

An easy way to elevate your energy and vibration is to create a clean and inviting space where you love. It opens your heart and soul to receive. Any form of cleansing is an invitation for newness and rejuvenation.

Happy Sunday and wishing everyone a beautiful day. In my part of the world, it is raining. After a restful morning in bed, we had a lovely brunch and then I ventured to do some cleaning – putting away summer stuff and preparing to welcome another favourite season – Fall.

There is something profoundly beautiful about cutting flowers from my garden and bring them indoors. It lifts the space immediately. An easy way to elevate your energy and vibration is to create a clean and inviting space where you love. It opens your heart and soul to receive. Any form of cleansing is an invitation for newness and rejuvenation.

Have an awesome Sunday.

How do we forgive those who hurt us?

Forgiveness…. this can be a heavy word for some. We are all vulnerable to being hurt at some point in our lives. One thing I know for sure, based on my own life experiences, is that forgiving frees my soul. It creates space for me to attract more beautiful things in my life rather than to harbour hurts which drain my energy.

Here is a short video from Mags Morning Inspiration to inspire your thoughts on forgiveness.

Best to all students, teachers and parents…

“Much education today is monumentally ineffective. All too often we are giving young people cut flowers when we should be teaching them to grow their own plants.” John W. Gardner

Wishing all of our students, teachers, professors, school principals and all school administrators and parents a successful year. May our classrooms be places where students find inspiration, motivation and a deep desire to add value and goodness to our world. May teaching and learning be blessed.

I know that this is a challenging time for many students, parents and teachers. My only advice is to take all measures to stay safe and healthy.

Is the Earth Breathing Better?

COVID-19 is causing havoc in human lungs and somehow I can’t help but feel that is what we have been doing to our environment for decades. Of course, we can’t possibly imagine what the river feels when it is dried or the bears feel when they are hungry or what the turtles and sea creatures feel when strangled in the garbage thrown by humans in the water that sustains them. I like to use the analogy that life is like a GPS and when we go off route, the GPS has a way of re-routing. We can take a longer or shorter time to get to our destinations with alternative views – but eventually we will get there. The truth of the matter is that all life is connected and when one part is off-balanced, we are sure to experience an imbalance in another part. Nothing in this life goes unnoticed and when we least expect it, the universe speaks and re-routes us.

I can’t help but think that everything between the earth and the sky is breathing better – right now. Breathing – just breathing.

I feel the pain of every human being and their loved ones who are in the crutches of this gruesome virus. I feel the pain of people who did not have a chance to say goodbye or put their affairs in order. This feels like madness. In my own little world, I am controlling the pieces which I can control to help disrupt COVID-19. It means staying home, keeping groceries in the garage for days before using them, disinfecting, social distancing, working online as much as I can and even reducing our food consumption.

There are lessons for all of us in this madness.

Maybe we need to restructure our world to have less emissions out into the environment? If we can stay home and keep our cars and planes from the air – maybe our planet will regain its balance.

Maybe we need to have more balance in our work lives to have real time for our families and what truly matters to us? We are burnt out and in a crisis like this, we see that even when we are working so hard, many of us cannot support ourselves without an income for a month. What is the point of all this work?

Maybe we need to re-evaluate the value of money in our lives?

Maybe businesses need to re-evaluate their business models and how they are contributing to burnout and environmental pollution?

Maybe our priorities need to change?

Maybe we need to think more carefully of the future which we are creating one action at a time?

Maybe we need to re-look at sustainable agriculture and how communities can support themselves? Food security is rising as a major concern for the future?

Maybe we need to think of our older generation and the privileges which all of them should have at a certain age?

Do share your thoughts on this issue. What changes do you think we should make for a sustainable future?

Remember to play your part. STAY HOME and PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Breaking News – Are You Getting Out Of Here Alive?

My breaking news to you this morning… none of us are leaving this earth alive – now or a day later or 50 years later. The coronavirus is creating havoc but also creating opportunities for us to examine what is important in our lives. Our forefathers were called to fight wars for the freedoms which we have today and in the process, many lost their lives, some became amputates and many of them learnt to live with traumatic memories. Some returned to their loved ones in a different state than when they left. After WW11, women who had been traditional housewives become empowered to become nurses and to serve their countries in a variety of roles which the new frontier provided. Through the turmoil of wars, new opportunities were created and proved that we are more capable than we think we are. Each wave of crisis helps us to expand ourselves and the global village which we inhabitants of.

Each wave of crisis helps us to expand ourselves and the global village which we inhabitants of.

I know for certain that none of us are getting out of here alive so let us stop complaining and whining about irrelevant stuff which is not helping anyone in the creating a safe and stable situation while we are still here. There are new rules and systems to follow. We are starting a NEW NORMAL and it is important for us to be excellent followers during this crisis.  Our ability to practice self-leadership becomes critical because each decision we make and each action we take can have beneficial or detrimental effects on someone else.

As we navigate through times which we were not prepared for, here are a few things which we can think about as we sit on our couch (which is what we are being asked to do!). Do your best to enjoy your numbered days left.

It is time to read the books which you have been putting off?

It is time to start Spring cleaning?

Can you learn some new skills to step into a new position when this is all over?

Who do you need to reach out to?

What new hobbies can you start? yoga? sewing? writing? meditation?

Is now the opportunity to organize your assets and financial affairs?

Look out for more information from MagsMagazine as we organize online events and speakers over the next few weeks to help us take action to live our dreams and manage this situation while we are still here.

Remember that all the physical stuff we own will stay behind.  What we move forward with are the lessons and journeys of our soul; the good and bad which we created in this world… You have the power to choose the legacy which you want to live behind!   Make it a great one!

Great acts are made of small deeds.

I chose the cup of tea over the chocolate chip cookies. It was a hard choice to make at 9.p.m when I felt tired and hungry but the vision for my body quickly superseded my immediate hunger.

I chose the cup of tea over the chocolate chip cookies. It was a hard choice to make at 9.p.m when I felt tired and hungry but the vision for my body quickly superseded my immediate hunger. I reminded myself of how beautiful I felt in my new dress which finally fitted after two weeks of workouts and managing my diet. Resisting the cookies may seem to be an insignificant matter to some people but it is a huge deal to me. I am an emotional, sweet tooth eater and several things like feeling tired, bored or anxious can easily set my trigger to indulge in sweets. Being able to manage my emotional eating habits require discipline and focus and it is easy to fail. However, overtime, I can see the results of my small deeds and this motivates me to keep up with the discipline not eating chocolate chip cookies in the late evenings. I feel proud that my vision is bigger and stronger than the chocolate chip cookie!

It is easy to become discouraged when our gains do not seem big enough to celebrate or we sabotage ourselves by not believing that we are deserving of something which we really want in our lives. It is important to remind ourselves that great acts are made of small deeds or small habits that eventually becomes a part of our thinking and acting. If you look carefully, you will find several opportunities to practice small deeds which can lead to your large gains.

Allow yourself to note the small acts which you perform daily. Feel gratitude for your small victories while you keep the large ones in your vision. Here are three small deeds or habits which you can celebrate each day:

Feel gratitude. There are so many things to be grateful for, even when life sucks sometimes. Think of the air that you breath, being alive, being given another chance, feeling love from someone, the technology which keeps you connected, having someone to support you in reaching your goals and the fact that you are reading this blog. The most important factor in gratitude is that you can FEEL it flowing through your body.

Set a small goal each day. It can be as simple as making your bed in the morning or as complex as saying hello to a stranger or as intimate as asking your partner for what you need from him/ her. Each time we accomplish something small, it inspires us to do more and even to be more! You can build an entire community around you by simply connecting with one stranger each day.

Write the biggest goal of your life in a place where it is visible to you. Spend a couple of minutes each day just looking at it and asking yourself “What can I do today to reach this goal?” By asking a small question daily, you are opening yourself to receiving answers. I like to imagine that we are all connected and that thoughts cross each other in waves. Asking questions to the universe, creates the opportunity for thoughts to cross in your favour… because somewhere out there, someone is holding the answers which you are looking for. Without asking the questions, how will you recognize the answers?

My wish for you in 2020 is that you will achieve your big goals while consciously practicing the discipline of engaging in small acts, moment by moment. Remember your greatness, your beauty and your uniqueness in this amazing universe.

Sometimes, unkind people need the most kindness

The beauty and mystery of life, is that we do not always see the intimate view of the evolution of a person’s soul. We cannot see all the losses and the depth of losses which can impact someone’s behaviour.

Kindness has become a new cool.

When and why did we stop being kind?

Is it more obvious in our society than before?

The beauty and mystery of life, is that we do not always see the intimate view of the evolution of a person’s soul.  We cannot see all the losses and the depth of losses which can impact someone’s behaviour.  We often speak about the loss of loved ones and have more sympathy towards those who are grieving. In addition, people react towards the loss of identity, jobs, status, wealth, relationships, friendships, trust, faith, hope, freedom, independence, safety, treasured objects, body image, health, innocence … and I am sure that you can name a few more losses.

How do you react to loss?

How do you react to kindness and unkindness?

For us to give the best of ourselves to others, we must pause and create a culture of kindness, first to ourselves – by being loving, forgiving and compassionate to ourselves.  If we are too hard on ourselves, we can harden our spirits and this makes us less compassionate towards others. We can choose to look at situation and release judgment and extend a loving blessing on those who are being unkind.  Being kind to an unkind person is a true act of generosity.

It is the same as loving those who least deserve our love.

Here is my FB live video which I did this morning.  By the way, I will be trying to do a FB live video at lunch time – 12:30 everyday. Join me if you can.

Maybe all you need to do is to embrace your crazy self in 2019!

All week, I have been thinking of what my word for 2019 will be and I just found it!

I don’t want to do what I did in 2018.  I chose the word FRUGAL, trying to develop some better savings habit and trying to be more careful with money… but that word just did NOT work for me.  What it made me discover about myself, was that I am NOT a frugal person and my most miserable moments were trying so hard to be frugal.  I felt that life constricted around me.  I know for sure that I enjoy living from the space of ‘unlimited abundance’ and that my serving and giving to life, that I receive 100% more than what I give. This is an deeply rooted belief and somehow, trying to be frugal caused more anxiety and constriction in my energy fields.

So, what will my 2019 word be?

CRAZY.

I will embrace my crazy self to spur me on to getting out of my head and manifesting every single crazy idea I have had about living!

As soon as the word hit my head this morning, it felt right!  It brought a smile to my face and an extra lightness and  excitement to my heart!   That is what your word for the year should feel like – right in your soul!

For most of my life, someone or the other has called me crazy! And sometimes, I have detested it because it makes me feel like something is wring with me.  But you know what, I think most of them meant it in a complimentary way. I just checked the meaning of the word crazy, and here is what I found:

ADJECTIVE
mentally deranged, especially as manifested in a wild or aggressive way.
“Stella went crazy and assaulted a visitor” · [more]
synonyms:
mad · insane · out of one’s mind · deranged · demented · [more]
extremely enthusiastic.
“I’m crazy about Cindy” · [more]
synonyms:
very enthusiastic · passionate · fanatical · excited · very keen on · [more]
(of an angle) appearing absurdly out of place or in an unlikely position.
“the monument leaned at a crazy angle”

For the records, I am not mentally deranged.

So my own definition is that I will be ‘out of my mind, extremely enthusiastic…appearing out of place or in an unlikely position!

My sentence at the end of 2019 will be, “What a crazy year this was!”  and it will mean:

“You crazy girl lived out of your mind!  You are so extremely enthusiastic about life that you appeared out of place and ended up in unlikely positions!  Your craziness created momentum around you and you had such an enjoyable year being YOU without the safeguards for approvals and permissions!  Well done – CRAZY does it!”

I reflected a little bit on my life and also realized that in my crazy moments, I seemed to have experienced quite a lot of joy.  In 2018, I did a few crazy things – left my job for an adventure in Rwanda with Wilson – one of the best life experiences which I have had.  We travelled to Cape Town, South Africa where I watched him in admiration presenting at the World Travel Market.  We explored the city and sites of Cape Town with great enthusiasm.  I even reached out to a stranger whom I met in a FB group and we met at our hotel in Cape Town and she is now a good friend on FB.

IMG_1683

We rode  on a motorcycle in Rwanda with an unstable helmet through the woods and red dirt earth to get to the Twin Lakes, on the border of Rwanda and Uganda. I crazily spoke my truth  through tears and allowed myself to be vulnerable to my feelings.   I walked for hours in a strange city and sat with servers at a local restaurant, who had limited English skills,  helping me to figure out how to get back home.  Looking back, those crazy moments seem to have removed something – fear for the unknown… and then brought some new confidence in walking the unknown path.

Rwanda

Today, in this moment, it feels like I need to be a bit more crazy to tap into the unknown parts of my world so that I can step up more purposefully in not merely existing but THRIVING! Overthinking can significantly alter your momentum for a life wrapped with the treasures and pleasures of LIVING.

Happy 2019!  Be your best CRAZY self.

Mags
